The board of the Dutch Django Association together with a representative of Python Namibia has awarded Loek van Gent the Dutch Python Namibia travel grant. The grant will cover the attendance cost of Loek to attend and contribute to Python Namibia, 2nd-5th February at the University of Namibia in Windhoek. With this grant, the Dutch Django Association aims to support the growing African Python community, and in particular help them build long-term connections to the Dutch and other western communities.
In Namibia, Loek will do a talk with follow-up workshop on automated testing. He's had previous contact with African developer groups, has met with fellow Python developers in Nairobi, Kenia recently and is already involved in programs that aim to help and connect young tech start-ups on the continent. With his extensive experience in connecting communities, the Dutch Django Association and Python Namibia are confident that this is an excellent step towards the goal of long-term connection building.
When Loek returns, he will do a presentation at the Dutch Django meetup about his visit. The meetup is still to be scheduled.
